The State Law Enforcement Division is investigating an officer-involved shooting in Dillon County, Dillon County Sheriff Major Hulon said.

The shooting happened about noon Tuesday at a home on Joann Branch Road, near Lake View, where deputies were serving a warrant on a man at his home, the sheriff said.

He refused to be taken into custody, presented a firearm and was shot by a deputy as a result, Hulon said.

The man was taken to an area hospital where he is being treated for a gunshot wound to the chest, Hulon said.

The deputy who fired the shot is being placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of SLED’s investigation, the sheriff said.
