COLUMBIA – The South Carolina Education Lottery will bring its prize wheel to the Darlington Raceway next month.

In a press release, the Lottery announced it would be selling a complete lineup of tickets at the track during the Diamond Hill Plywood 200 on May 9 and the Southern 500 on May 9.

Lottery tickets will be on sale 9 a.m. – 8 p.m. on May 8 and 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. on May 9.

A $10 lottery purchase will allow players to spin the prize wheel for promotional items including t-shirts, travel mugs, tote bags and a Caribbean cruise for two.

Since the Lottery’s inception in 2002, the General Assembly has appropriated more than $2 billion for educational purposes through fiscal year 2009.

In the fiscal year ending June 30, 2008, more than 97 cents of every dollar spent by players on the South Carolina Education Lottery was returned to the state in the form of contributions to education, prizes, retailer commissions and payment to contractors for goods and services.

If some of the more than 97 cents of every dollar spent was returned to the state in the form of contributions to education, why are we still letting teachers go?
