Man charged with felony DUI in cousin’s death

A Lake View man is charged with felony driving under the influence in connection with the death of a passenger in the vehicle he was driving Wednesday night, S.C. Highway Patrol Cpl. Paul Brouthers said.

Wacon Rogers III, 26, of Lake View was arrested early Thursday morning and is charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, Brouthers said.

Andrew L. Rogers, 24, who is Wacon Rogers’ cousin, was pronounced dead at the scene of the single-vehicle crash,  Marion County Coroner Jerry Richardson said.

Troopers said the crash happened on Marion County secondary road 21 at 11:25 p.m. about three miles north of Mullins.

The driver of the vehicle lost control, ran off the right side of the road, overturned and struck a tree, Brouthers said.

Andrew Rogers, who wasn’t wearing a seat belt, was ejected during the crash and died after the vehicle landed on him, Richardson said.

The crash remains under investigation by the highway patrol.
