Inmate dies at Florence County Detention Center

An inmate has died at the Florence County Detention Center of natural causes, Florence County Coroner M.G. “Bubba” Matthews said.

Jerome McFadden, 38, of 5824 Pamplico Highway in Florence died about 2 a.m. Thursday. McFadden was pronounced dead at the jail in Effingham, Matthews said.

McFadden had been booked at the jail Monday on a general sessions county bench warrant for failure to appear on weekends.

An autopsy is expected to confirm the cause of McFadden’s death, Matthews said.
