Conway man dies in Marion County crash

A Conway man died Wednesday afternoon in a Marion County crash, S.C. Highway Patrol reports show.

Marion County Coroner Jerry Richardson identified the man as 61-year-old Joseph Nathaniel Thomas.

It happened after 3 p.m. on S.C. 41, according to the highway patrol.

Richardson said it’s not clear if the Thomas’ death will be recorded as a traffic fatality because it appears Thomas may have died of a heart attack he suffered while driving.

Thomas’ body is being sent to the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston for an autopsy to determine his cause of death Thursday, Richardson said.
