A Blenheim man was arrested Sunday after police said he crashed into a motorcyclist with his car, then fled the scene, Florence Police Maj. Carlos Raines said.
Dustin Cecil Cook, 22, of 4544 Gray Road is charged with felony driving under the influence resulting in great bodily injuries and hit and run, Florence County Detention Center bookings reports show.
The incident happened about 4 a.m. Sunday at Palmetto and Church streets, Raines said. The victim and the suspect were traveling east on Palmetto Street when the suspect crashed his car into the back of the victim’s Harley-Davidson.
The crash pushed the victim off the motorcycle which landed 61 feet away from the original point of impact, Raines said. The victim suffered head injuries and was treated at a local hospital.
The suspect drove into the parking lot of a nearby convenience store, but quickly left the area without checking on the victim or waiting on officers to arrive, Raines said.
Soon after the crash, the wrecked vehicle was spotted near Francis Marion University by a Florence County sheriff’s deputy and the suspect was arrested, Raines said.
Cook was released Monday from the jail in Effingham. Bond information wasn’t available.
