Plantation Lakes residents keep an eye on woods...
Fire broke out Wednesday afternoon near Carolina Forest, but, so far, no homes have been affected.

Smoke still fills the trees in the woods between homes in Plantation Lakes in Carolina Forest and the southbound lanes of Highway 31 in Horry County on Thursday morning.
Tom and Rosemary Lusco moved to Plantation Lakes a little more than three years ago, but Wednesday night was the first time he had to turn his sprinkler system on manually.
Lusco, and many of his neighbors, heeded fire officials’ warnings to water their lawns, to keep a nearby woods fire from buring their homes.
“Thank goodness things worked out the way they did,“ said Lusco on Thursday morning.
“We remember the last fire (that burned down 76 homes in Barefoot Resort in April),“ said Rosemary Lusco. “We always had an evacuation list, but we got a better list after the last fire. We were ready to go,“ she said.
According to investigators with Horry County Fire Rescue, the fire started when a truck broke down on Highway 31 near the 6 mile marker on Wednesday afternoon. The axle sparked, and set off several small fires.
By Thursday morning, the fire was under control, but still smoked and smoldered behind some homes in Plantation Lakes.
The Luscos and their neighbors all worked together to make sure everyone was safe on Wednesday, and Tom said he added one more thing to his holiday weekend to-do list.
“(We’re) keeping an eye on the smoldering,“ he said. “We can see the smoldering through the trees. Hopefully it will burn itself out.“
