Not enough evidence for recount in District 9 race

After many hours of testimony Monday, it was decided there will be no re-count in an Horry County Board of Education election.

District 9 incumbent Ronald Bessant lost by just 121 votes in the November 4 election.

Bessant’s lawyer argued for a re-count, after they said there were complaints of voter intimidation, people voting in the wrong district and miscounted absentee ballots.

The Commission says that is still not enough evidence for a re-count and the results stand.

Bessant’s challenger, David Cox, and his lawyer said they are glad that Cox can move forward.

“The proceeding was fair, we’re very pleased the result,“ Cox’s lawyer Michael Suggs said. “The people of Horry County spoke in the election about two weeks ago, and we’re very excited that those results were upheld by the election commission today”.

Bessant represented District 9 for the past 18 years.
