MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Myrtle Beach Hospitality Association’s 15th annual Job Expo is scheduled from 10am - 3pm. Wednesday, March 11, at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center.
The Job Expo is presented in cooperation with the Hospitality Partnership, Waccamaw Regional Council of Governments/Waccamaw Workforce Board and South Carolina Employment Security Commission Coastal Workforce Center.
The Coast RTA and Pee Dee Regional Transportation Authority will provide round-trip bus transportation from Georgetown, Loris, Aynor and surrounding areas. Between 4,000 and 6,000 job seekers are expected to attend the expo.
The day before the event, Tuesday, March 10, unemployed job seekers may attend the following free hospitality certification sessions at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center (Exhibit Hall C). The sessions are hosted by the Myrtle Beach Area Hospitality Association:
·9-9:30 a.m. (Orkin Pest Control): Bed Bug Prevention and Remediation—Learn how to identify, prevent and treat bed bugs
·10-11:45 a.m. (Brame): Basics of Chemistry of Hospitality—Chemicals and biorenewables for restaurants, pools, lawns, restrooms and bedrooms
·1-5 p.m. (Jay Rowe, professor, Horry-Georgetown Technical College): Serve Safe Alcohol—A new certification required for employees serving alcohol and any business serving alcohol after 2 a.m.
The sessions are typically offered as a benefit of membership to the Myrtle Beach Area Hospitality Association and the Hospitality Partnership. However, this year the sessions are being offered free to a limited number of unemployed job seekers on a first-come, first-served basis.
To register, contact the Coastal Workforce Center at 234-9675. The deadline to register is 12 p.m. March 9.
“Job seekers should be well aware that fewer jobs are available this year,” said Pauline Levesque, CEO, Myrtle Beach Area Hospitality Association. “But, for those wanting additional training, the hospitality certification sessions could put job seekers in a better position to be hired in the hospitality industry.”
Event partners are the Horry County Department of Social Services, The Coast RTA, Pee Dee Regional Transportation Authority, Horry-Georgetown Technical College, Coastal Carolina University, DocuSystems, Convention Makers, Myrtle Beach Communications, Costco Wholesale, S & D Coffee Inc. and LCM Design. Media partners are The Sun News, NextMedia of Myrtle Beach and WBTW News 13.
