Horry County police arrest, charge man in Little River murder

Horry County and North Myrtle Beach police are investigating a homicide that happened late Tuesday night.

According to Lt. Jay Brantly with Horry County Police, officers responded to a home on River Road in Little River, where a shooting was reported.

Investigators found the body of a man outside the home.

According to Horry County Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard, the victim is 57-year-old Dale McDuffy Hammond. Willard said Hammond was shot several times.

Willard also said Hammond owned a home in Cerro Gordo, NC, but also the home where his body was found Tuesday night.

Officers arrested 57-year-old Thomas Edward Shipplett of Ash, North Carolina, and charged him with murder. He is currently at the J. Reuben Long Detention Center.

An autopsy will be performed later today, said Brantly.

This is the most shocking news I have had in a very long time, I just met Mr. Dale, 2-3 weeks ago, how can this be true, does anyone know what/how this happened, I am in shock and I know his family is also in shock, such a wonderful caring man and family.
