Garden city golf cart parade resumes in memory of former organizer
A July Fourth tradition was renewed in Garden City.
After a year hiatus, the Garden City Fourth of July golf cart parade resumed in memory of Carol Mayes
Atchie wren put the event back together in memory of her friend Mayes, who had been organizing the parade.
Mayes died on May 27th, 2009.
Wren says 182 golf carts rode a half mile down to the beach in the parade to celebrate Independence Day and to remember Mayes.
“It’s been going on for 28 years and last year they didn’t have it, but we wanted to continue it this year in memory of Carol,” Wren said.
Many of the people who came out to the parade also donated money to the Murrells Inlet-Garden City Fire Departments.
Wren says they’re hoping to raise one thousand dollars

Great. What a wonderful event. Unless you consider the reckless endangerment. People out on public streets in unsafe vehicles that were never meant to be used on our roads, transporting people in an open vehicle with out helmets or seat belts and worst of all small young children that are not in any kind of child seat what so ever. As a parent these people should not only be ashamed of them selves, but some one should stop them from doing this. It is not ok to smoke cigarettes around them of use profanities but some how it is ok to put them into some kind of road obstacle on public streets with no safety or protection what so ever. How can this be ok in today’s society, with all the knowledge that we have today? What is wrong with people these days?
