Agape Hospice to
offer volunteer training
Agape Hospice will have a Volunteer Training Class on March 26, at 6 p.m.
If you or anyone you know is interested in volunteering with hospice, please contact Genie Brown at 383-5115.
Agape’s volunteer program is open to men and women who care and have a desire to give of themselves. The opportunities for volunteering are endless.
Volunteers are needed for patient companionship, administrative duties, clerical duties, bereavement follow-up and to simply offer unconditional love to patients.
Lamar Egg Scramble
coming April 1
The Town of Lamar invites everyone to come out for one of South Carolina’s most prestigious festivals, The Lamar Egg Scramble Jamboree.
Dates for the festival are Wednesday, April 1 through Saturday April 5.

Black Creek Arts to host reception for Spires, Holmes exhibits
Black Creek Arts Council will host an opening reception for Dr. Hiller Spires on March 5 from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
The arts center is pleased to be show casing Dr. Spires’ abstract paintings.
Wings & Ale is sponsoring the opening.
Also on display in the gallery will be paper mache work by Shirley Holmes.
Barbecue to benefit HHS
athletics Thursday
The Red Fox Club Barbecue, catered by Mr. B’s, will be Thursday, March 5, at First Baptist Church in Hartsville from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4 to 6 p.m.
Plates are take-out only and are $6 each.
All proceeds go to support Red Fox athletics.
Relay for Life
chicken bog Friday
The Relay for Life Chicken Bog will be held Friday, March 6, at Lakeview Baptist Church in the Family Life Center.
Plates are $7 each, eat-in or take-out.
Serving times are 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 4 to 7 p.m.
The event will include a bake sale.
Proceeds go to fight cancer.
Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra to
perform Thursday
Step back in time when the Hartsville-Coker Concert Association presents the big band stylings of The Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra on Thursday, March 5, at 7:30 p.m. at the Center Theater in downtown Hartsville.
Admission is $20 for adults, $7 for children under 18 and students, or free with Coker College ID.
Tickets are available in advance at the Greater Hartsville Chamber of Commerce or at the door.
Jacob Kelley House Museum open to public beginning March 1
The Jacob Kelley House Museum will be open to the public for tours on Sunday, March 1.
The 19th century farm house is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is owned by the Darlington County Historical Commission.
During the Civil War, federal forces used the house as a headquarters for scouting parties seeking provisions for Gen. William T. Sherman’s army.
The house museum is open the first Sunday of each month from March through December. Admission is free.

Army Pvt. Elmond T. Price has graduated from Basic Combat training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla.
During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission and received instruction and training exercises in drill and ceremonies, Army history, core values and traditions, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, rifle marksmanship, weapons use, map reading and land navigation, foot marches, armed and unarmed combat, and field maneuvers and tactics.
He is the brother of Elizabeth Price, and Shaniki Davis, both of Bishopville.
Army National Guard Pvt. Sean M. Allen has graduated from Basic Combat training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla.
During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission and received instruction and training exercises in drill and ceremonies, Army history, core values and traditions, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, rifle marksmanship, weapons use, map reading and land navigation, foot marches, armed and unarmed combat, and field maneuvers and tactics.
He is the son of Robin Duke of Hartsville.
The private is a 2006 graduate of Hartsville High School.
