Betty J. Johnson Dailey
Betty J. Johnson Dailey, died on Thursday, Oct. 2, 2008 in McLeod Regional Medical Center after a long period of declining health. She was born in Marion County on Jan. 9, 1948, a daughter of the late Robert and Annie Belle Johnson. She attended public schools in Marion County and North Carolina, graduating in 1969 in computers. She worked with Mullins–Marion County Medical Center for 33 years.
Surviving are her are a son, Anthony Shawn Johnson of Spring Lake, N.C.; two sisters, Mattie J. Murray of Mullins and Lena Richardson of Florence; two brothers, Tommie Johnson and Wayne Johnson both of Mullins; her best friend, Joyce Lanier of Mullins; and a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Services were on Tuesday, Oct, 7, 2008 at 2 p.m. in Six Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Mullins, with the Rev. Tony Brantley officiating. The burial followed at Nazarene Cemetery, Mullins, with Troy’s funeral home directing the funeral. 

Eleanor B. Jones
Eleanor Boatwright Jones, 75, widow of Paul Herman Jones, died Thursday, Oct. 16, 2008 in Grand Strand Medical Center after an illness. She was born Aug. 27, 1933 in Marion, a daughter of the late Royce and Marion Bruce Boatwright. Mrs. Jones was a retired real estate agent and a graduate of Marion High School. She attended Columbia College and was a member of the North Myrtle Beach Realtors Association. Mrs. Jones was a member of Center Untied Methodist Church.
Surviving Mrs. Jones are two sons, Sam P. Jones and his wife Amy of Apex, N.C. and Brett M. Jones and his wife Robin of Charlotte; a sister, Margaret Wesley of Marion; and a brother, Richard Boatwright of Surfside Beach.
Services were at 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 19, in the Chapel of Cox-Collins Funeral Home, with the Rev. William Heustess officiating. Burial followed in Center United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 2711 Middleburg Dr. Kittrell Center, Suite 110, Columbia, 29204.

 

Eddie Hill
Eddie Hill, 78, husband of the late Stella Chatt Hill, died Sunday, Oct. 19, 2008 in Marion County Medical Center after an illness. He was born Sept. 27, 1930 in Marion County, a son of the late McCoy and Gertie Antwine Hill. Mr. Hill was a retired fisherman and of the Pentecostal Holiness faith.
Surviving are his children, Gene Hill of Centenary, Judy Brown of Marion, Ralph Hill of Wauchula, Fla., Renea Poston of Conway and Darlene Ratliff of Wauchula, Fla.; his grandchildren, Lenard Lee Hill, Amy Calhoun, Coy Edward Hill, Nickie Cox and Alex Johnson; his great- grandchildren, Amber Calhoun, Landen Calhoun, Trenton Lee Hill, Reed Cox and Aiden Cox; a brother, K.D. Hill of Wauchula, Fla.; and four sisters, Laura Mae Martin of Conway, Elizabeth Holden of Conway, Frances Daniels of Conway and Doris Benton of Wauchula, Fla. Mr. Hill was predeceased by a brother, Robert Hill, and a sister, Betty Meares. Services were at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21 in the Chapel of Cox-Collins Funeral Home, with the Rev. Roger Ard officiating. Burial followed in Cedardale Cemetery.

 

Carolyn Williamson Elliott
Carolyn Williamson Elliott, 57, died Monday, Oct. 20, 2008 in McLeod Hospice House of Florence after an illness. Mrs. Elliott was born on Jan. 17, 1951, in Marion County, a daughter of the late Robert Lee Williamson and Martha Elizabeth Pridgen Williamson. She was a retired electrician and a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church.
Surviving Mrs. Elliott are a son, Michael Elliott and his wife Angie of Darlington; a grandson, Conner Elliott; a granddaughter, Kennedy Elliott; a brother, Keith Williamson of Mullins; six sisters, Joyce Lackey of Mullins, Janet and her husband Harvey Britt of Mullins, Jean and her husband Richard Martin of Mullins, Sylvia Britt of Mullins, Marilyn and Drex Soles of Tabor, City, N.C. and Bonnie Johnson of Mullins. Mrs. Elliott was predeceased by one sister Bobbie W. Horne and two brothers, Robbie D. Williamson and Elvin Williamson.
Services were at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 22 in the Chapel of Cox-Collins Funeral Home, with the Rev. Glenn Brown officiating the services. Burial followed at Red Hill Cemetery.

 

Hazel P. Lupo
Hazel Pace Lupo, 93, wife of the late Luke H. Lupo, of the Isle of Palms, died on Sunday, October 19, 2008. A graveside service was on Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2008 in Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens at 3 p.m. The Rev. David Surrett and the Rev. Donald O. Clendaniel II officiated.
Mrs. Lupo was born Dec. 14, 1914 in Marion, daughter of the late William B. Pace and Janie Britt Pace. She attended Columbia Business School and was a member of the Isle of Palms United Methodist Church for over 50 years, where she was secretary for the Sunday School and a member of the WMU. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW and was retired from the Charleston Naval Shipyard where she was in charge of military shipping.
She is survived by a brother, Charles Pace of Ladson; a sister, Dotty Henry of Moncks Corner; many nieces and nephews and many loving friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Luke Lupo, and four brothers, Ravenel Pace, Harold Pace, Zack Pace and William B. Nermae Carter Whitaker
Nermae Carter Whitaker, formerly of Orangeburg, died Sunday, Oct. 19, 2008, in Wilmington, N.C. Mrs.Whitaker was born in Latta, a daughter of the late John Monroe Carter and Mary Turner Carter.
She was retired from Phillips Shoes, Orangeburg, and was a member of First Presbyterian Church, the International Sunday School Class and a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, Wilmington, N.C. She was preceded in death by a grandson, Kristopher D. Rucker; a brother, James M. Carter; a sister, Kathleen C. McRae; and was the widow of John Henry Whitaker.
Surviving Mrs. Whitaker are daughters, Wanda W. Hickman and husband James of Lexington and Shelia W. McIntyre and husband Randy of Wilmington, N.C.; a sister, Myrtle L. Sutton of Williamsburg, Va.; grandchildren, Heather H. Parsons of Columbia, Kimberly Lauren McIntyre of Wilmington, N.C.,  Jonathan Kendall McIntyre of Wilmington, N.C.; and a great-grandchild, Robert Swinson-Rucker of Wilmington, N.C.
Services were at 11 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 23, in First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Jud Jordan officiating. Burial followed at Memorial Park Cemetery with Dukes-Harley Funeral Home directing the service. Tommie Floyd
A funeral for Tommie Floyd, (Sgt. First Class U.S. Army Retired), 75, of Hopkins, was on Saturday, Oct. 25, 2008 in Greenlawn Funeral Home Chapel, Columbia, with Pastor Ron Daves officiating. Committal with full military honors followed in Greenlawn Memorial Park. Mr. Floyd died on Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2008. Born in Mullins on March 28, 1933, he was the son of the late Tate and Lillie Mae Phillips Floyd. He was retired from the U.S. Army, having served with honor during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church, Masonic Lodge 277 and the Lion’s Club.
Mr. Floyd is survived by his wife, Gerta Floyd; sons, Rick, Jack and Terry, all of Columbia; daughters, Shirley and Betty; sisters, Betty Beck and Annette Causey; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents and a brother, Tate Floyd Jr.

 

Harold D. Ard
Harold Derwood Ard, 70, formerly of Mullins, died Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2008 in Trident Medical Center in Charleston after and illness. He was born on Aug. 3, 1938 in Mullins, a son of the late Howard and Maggie Turbeville Ard. Mr. Ard retired from Food Lion as a meat cutter and was of the Baptist faith.
Mr. Ard’s survivors include a daughter, Joy Stephens of Surfside Beach; a grandson, Kristofer Stephens; two brothers, Edward Ard and his wife Barbara of Summerville and Robert Lee Ard and his wife Sara of Temperance Hill; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, James Carl Ard. Graveside services, at Red Hill Memorial Gardens Cemetery with the Rev. Neil Hinson officiating, followed visitation with the family on Saturday, Oct. 25 at 3 p.m. in Cox-Collins Funeral Home of Mullins.
