Carl F. Kuhn
Mullins – Mr. Carl Frederick Kuhn, 93, died Monday, June 22, 2009 in his home.
He was born June 14, 1916 in Trenton, N.J., son of the late Charles and Leila Snook Kuhn. Mr. Kuhn retired from the US Army as a Chief Warrant Officer 3rd Class, after 23 years of service. He served in World War II with the MARS Task Force in Burma, India and China. He was a member of the American Legion for 60+ years having served in all offices including Post Commander. He was also a member of VFW Post 6122. Mr. Kuhn had worked as a purchasing agent for Eskridge-Long Construction Company in Marion. He was a member of Mullins First Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Men’s Bible Class.
Mr. Kuhn was predeceased by his wife of 60 years, Hazel Collins Kuhn.
Surviving Mr. Kuhn are 3 sons, Carl R. Kuhn, Jr. of Lexington, Michael C. Kuhn and his wife Michaela E. of Mt. Pleasant, and Stephen D. Kuhn of Mullins, 4 grandchildren, Katherine Anne Esterline of Columbia, Karl H. Kuhn, Daniel W. Kuhn and Anna Maria Kuhn, all of Mt. Pleasant, 2 great grandchildren, Gabrielle N. Esterline and Holly G. Esterline, III, 3 special nieces, June Collins Rowell of Florence, Joyce Collins Spann of Latta and Grace Brown of Mullins, and numerous other nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were at 11 a.m., Wednesday, June 24 at the Chapel of Cox-Collins Funeral Home, with the Dr. Lewis McCormick officiating. Burial followed in Red Hill Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

Jane E. Yarboro
Mullins – Mrs. Jane Elliott Yarboro, 85, widow of Tom Walter Yarboro, Jr., died Saturday, June 20, 2009 in Marion County Medical Center after an illness.
She was born June 14, 1924 in Marion County, the daughter of the late Edgar Torrence Elliott, Jr. and the late Daisy Belle Hodge Elliott.
Mrs. Yarboro was very active over the years in several businesses in the community, including being an award-winning Real Estate agent. She was a graduate of Limestone College. Mrs. Yarboro was a member of Macedonia United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Handbell Choir for 23 years and in earlier years she served as choir leader.
Surviving Mrs. Yarboro are 2 daughters, Mary Ellen Cate and her husband Eddie of Rome, Ga. and Beth Myers and her husband Phillip of Columbia, and 3 grandchildren, Josh Cate, Ashleigh Myers, and Kellie Myers.
Funeral Services were at 2 p.m., Wednesday, June 24, at Macedonia United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Kem Thomas and the Rev. Paul Frey officiating Entombment followed in Red Hill Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, directed Cox-Collins Funeral Home.

Vera McClellan
Cheraw – Vera McClellan, 66, died on 4 June 2009 at Cheraw Healthcare. She was the daughter of the late Liston McClellan and Mary Jane McClellan Gause. She attended the public schools of Marion County, and attended Sandy Grove Holiness Church at an early age. A funeral was directed by Jackson & McGill on Monday, 8 June 2009 at the Jackson & McGill Memorial Chapel, with Rev. Dr. Henry McGill, Jr., officiating. Interment was at Jackson & Daughters Cemetery. She is survived by her nieces Angela Grant and Wanda Crosby both of Marion, and Letrice Gause of Charlotte, and nephew Shawn McDuffie of Columbia.
Leon Graves
Marion – Leon Len Graves, 53, died on Wednesday, 3 June 2009. He was the son of Alfer Mae Stackhouse and the late Clifton Hamilton. He was a 1974 graduate of Terrell’s Bay High School, and served in the United States Air Force. He was employed by Waccamaw Pottery, and later by Pee Dee Block. He was the widower of the former Vine Boatwright, and they were the parents of Tyrand, Shana and Xai Xai Boatwright all of the home, and LeKeisha Davis of Marion. He was the brother of Ronnie and Jean Stackhouse, Doris Hammonds, and Pamela Smith. A funeral was directed by Jackson & McGill on Tuesday, 9 June 2009 at the House of God Church of Centenary, with Trial Elder Wayne McWhite, presiding. Interment was at Old Neck Cemetery of Britton’s Neck.
Arthur Lee Furnace
Marion – Arthur Lee Furnace, 57, died on 5 June 2009. He was the son of the late Luther and Victoria Furnace. He became a minister with the Refuge Pentecostal Holiness Church, under the leadership of the late Bishop Annie Mae Jenkins Abram. He was educated in the public schools of Marion County, and was employed for over 30 years at Palmetto Hardware. He was the husband of Dorothy Mae Furnace, and they were the parents of Sylvia and Cynthia Furnace. He is also survived by his sister Mary Jane James, and brother James Nelson Furnace. A funeral was directed by Jackson & McGill on Friday, 12 June 2009 at the Jackson & McGill Memorial Chapel, with Bishop Willie Davis Presiding.
Charles Lee Owens
Mullins – A funeral for the late Charles Lee Owens, 55, was directed by Jackson & McGill on Saturday, 13 June 2009 at the Jackson & McGill Memorial Chapel, with Rev. Dr. Henry McGill, Jr., eulogist. He was the son of the late Paul and Cornetha Lucky Owens. He was the husband of the former Eleanor Constant, and they were the parents of Charles Owens of Mullins, Marcus Owens of Renton, Washington, and Paul Owens of the home. He was the brother of: Paul Israel of Trenton, NJ; James Israel of Rochester, NY; Earl Israel and John C. Owens both of Mullins; Earnell Owens of Florence; Bob Owens of Vero Beach, FL; Eloise Duncan of Mullins, and Janie Mason of Marion. Interment was at Jackson & Daughters Cemetery.
Dwayne J. Wilson
Marion – Dwayne Jermell Wilson, 26, died on 11 June 2009. He was the son of John Julius Wilson and Pastor Ivery B. Wilson. He was the father of Dwayne Jermell Wilson, Jr. He attended the Now Faith Assembly Church, where a funeral was directed by Jackson & McGill on Wednesday, 17 June 2009, where his mother is pastor, and where Bishop Liston Page, Sr. was the eulogist. Interment was at the Greater Singletary AME Church Cemetery. He was a 2002 graduate of Marion High School, and a former employee of Wal-Mart, APL, and SoPakCo. He is survived by his brother John Brian Wilson, his grandmothers Josephine P. White and Martha Wilson, and a special friend in Cassandra Brantley.
Henry Hart
Marion – Henry Clay Hart, 72, died on 12 June 2009. He was the son of the late Luther and Odessa Legette Hart. He grew up in Marion, and later moved to Baltimore, where he worked as a longshoreman for many years. He was the brother of Leonard and Frank Hart both of Tampa, Lewis Hart of Plainfield, NJ, and Emma Lee Burch of Lakeland, FL. A funeral was directed by Jackson & McGill on Wednesday, 17 June 2009, with Elder Charles Brown, eulogist. He is survived by his children Clay, Donnie, Lisa, and Kim Hart all of Baltimore, and Janie Grice of Mullins.
Sarah Jane Nesbitt
Marion – Sarah Jane Nesbitt was born 19 September 1920 to the late Willie and Rosa Lester Harps. She was a longtime and faithful member of Springville United Methodist Church, where a funeral was directed by Jackson & McGill on Saturday, 20 June 2009, with Pastor Shawn V. Weeks, officiating. Interment was at the church cemetery. She was the widow of Alvin Nesbitt, and the mother of the late James Lee Harrison. She is survived by her daughters Rosa Mae Moody and Josephine Nesbitt both of Marion, and Georgianna Nesbitt of Staten Island, NY.
Weston Legette, Jr.

Funeral services for Deacon Weston Legette, Jr. of Marion, SC, was held 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 26, 2009 at Greater Gethsemane Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ, 1532 E. Old Marion Highway, Florence. Burial followed in Devotion Gardens, Marion. He died on Sunday, June 21, 2009 in a Florence hospital after an illness.
He was born March 8, 1937 in Marion, SC, the son of Weston Legette, Sr.; Pastor Danie Stevenson Legette Livingston and Ceasar L. Livingston. He attended the public schools of Marion County and his profession was that of a commercial farmer. In 1971 he was named the “Farmer of the Year” for Marion County.
At an early age, he was an active member of Miracle Church of Jesus (Apostolic Faith) and later in life, he fellowshipped with Now Faith Assembly, Greater Highway Church of Christ and Greater Gethsemane Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ.
Deacon Legette was predeceased by his parents; his beloved wife of 50 years, Bessie Grant Legette; two sisters, Margaret Legette Evans, Geraldine Legette White; and one brother, Leroy Nelson.
Survivors are: five children, Mary (Robert) Lester, Charles Legette, Brenetta (Pastor Carl) Johnson, Barbara (Clyde) Lockley and Connie (Ernest) Brown; three grandsons, Carl Morgan Johnson, Jr., Robert Jonte Lester and Christopher Grant Lester; three granddaughters, Jacquetta Mornise Johnson, Tiffany Godbolt and Arie J. Brown; brothers-in-law, Fred White, Eddie Peay, Willie (Delores) Grant and James (Margo) Grant; sisters-in-law, Sarah Frances Leonard, Marcella Grant and Rita Grant; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
