Man dies in Sunday night crash

A Hartsville man died in a single-car traffic crash Sunday night.

Darlington County Coroner Todd Hardee identified the victim as Darrell Howard, 48.

The S.C. Highway Patrol said the crash happened at about 7:40 p.m. Sunday on Society Avenue just outside the Hartsville city limits.

Investigators said the vehicle was traveling north when it ran off the right side of the road and into a ditch. The car rolled several times before hitting a utility pole.

Howard, who was alone in the car, was thrown from the vehicle. Hardee pronounced him dead at a local hospital.

The Highway Patrol and the coroner’s office are investigating the accident.
