The Hartsville High School choirs will present their Spring Concert on Thursday, May 28, at 8 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church. Featured in the concert will be the HHS Singers, the Red Fox Singers and the Freshmen Choir under the direction of Dr. James Beaumier with Dennis Schaefer accompanying. Music performed will include competition selections from this spring, the music of George Gershwin from a recent performance with the Long Bay Symphony as well as solos by choir members. The concert is free and open to the public.
“Claude Hart…Early Commercial Photographer,” is open in the Hartsville Museum Showcase Gallery until May 28. The exhibit shows the variety of subjects Hart photographed in chronicling the growth of Hartsville. The subjects range from local citizens, landscapes and buildings, to homes and gardens, some of which are still recognizable today. Admission is free. Hours are Monday – Friday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Black Creek Arts Council and its Black Creek, Blue Jeans & BBQ sponsor West Propane are teaming up to raffle off a Big Green Egg Cooker. Raffle tickets can be purchased at the Black Creek Arts Center on College Avenue. Tickets are $5 apiece, with specials of six tickets for $25 and 15 for $50. The winner will be announced on June 17, just in time for Father’s Day. Black Creek Arts Council would like to thank West Propane for its participation in this raffle. All proceeds will be used for arts education programming by Black Creek Arts Council.
The Hartsville Area Recreation Department is currently taking registrations for Youth Summer League Basketball. Registration is open through May 29. Ages are 7 years through 17 years. Games will begin in June. The registration fee is $25 for city residents and $31 for county residents. You may register by coming to the Coach TB Thomas Sports Center. Catch the Red Fox Spirit with your local backyard chefs will be held Friday, May 29, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Kelleytown Stadium. The Red Fox Club will have hotdogs and chicken fingers for the kids as well as entertainment. Golf shirts and T-shirts will also be available for purchase. Tickets are $40 per family and $20 for individuals. You can purchase tickets at Hobnob Gourmet, Burry Bookstore, the Hartsville High School main office or at the gate. Come out and support your Foxes.

A Community Baccalaureate Service hosted in partnership with Hartsville area churches in honor of area high school graduates will be held at Emmanuel Baptist Church on Sunday, May 31, at 3 p.m. All high school graduates are invited to participate. Please wear your cap and gown and arrive by 2:45 p.m.
Descendants of Alexander and Victoria Kelley Linton will celebrate the 200th anniversary of their family June 13 and 14, at the old Henry Linton home, which was built in 1809. The home is located between Cheraw and Society Hill on Highway 52. There will be a cookout Saturday, June 13, at 6 p.m. Those attending should bring their choice of meat for the grill. A picnic dinner will be held Sunday, June 14, at 1 p.m., and everyone is asked to bring food and drinks. Paper products, utensils and ice will be furnished. Recently the Alexander Linton family Bible was located and it will be on display. Victoria Kelley was the granddaughter of Jacob Kelley, and a picture of her is in one of the bedrooms at the Jacob Kelley home in Kelleytown near Hartsville.
The Chapman Family Reunion for descendants of William Isaac Chapman will be held on Sunday, June 7, at 12 p.m. at Lakeview Club in Hartsville. The children of William Isaac Chapman include Emily Corinne Chapman Kirven, Clara Chapman Bryant, Labelia Ann Chapman Windham Newsome, Kindred Griffith Chapman, William Charles Chapman, Gertrude Chapman Dixon, Victoria Chapman Goodson, Sarah Chapman Crowley and Laura Mantha Chapman Rhodes.
The Annual Young Eagles Rally will be held at the Hartsville Regional Airport on June 13, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. sponsored by EAA Chapter 1058. The event will feature free airplane rides around the Hartsville area for kids ages 8-17. No pre-registration is required. The 4th Annual Walk With The Docs, hosted by founding sponsor Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center, will be held on June 20, at 10 a.m. The three-mile walk will begin and end on Coker College’s campus at Davidson Hall. This is an event for individuals, families, and businesses to support the Free Medical Clinic of Darlington County by honoring their favorite doctor and the hearts that come together to offer this service to our community. Registration has started for Week In The Wild at Kalmia Gardens. The camp will run from 9 a.m.- 11:30 a.m. July 13-17 for rising first- and second-graders, July 20-24 for rising third- and fourth-graders and July 27-31 for rising fifth- and sixth-graders.

The Jacob Kelley House Museum is open to the public the first Sunday of each month through December. The 19th century farm house is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is owned by the Darlington County Historical Commission. During the Civil War, federal forces used the house as a headquarters for scouting parties seeking provisions for Gen. William T. Sherman’s army. Admission is free.

The Golden Hands Needlework Group meets at St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church in Hartsville the first and third Monday of each month at 5:30 p.m. The group knits and crochets hats, sweaters, blankets and other items to donate to charities.
The Hartsville Toastmasters meet every second and fourth Monday at 7 p.m. at the Black Creek Arts Council building, 116 W. College Ave. Toastmasters International is a nonprofit club specializing in the improvement of leadership and speaking skills in a controlled, constructive setting. The Hartsville Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. extends an invitation, to high school males, to join the 2008-09 Kappa League Program. Kappa League is the Guide Right initiative, of the fraternity, with the purpose of helping African-American males choose and pursue useful careers by exposing them to cultural enrichment and character development. The young men will participate in seminars and activities to develop leadership skills, refine self-image, build self-esteem and improve social skills.

A scholarship fund has been established in memory of SGTM Clinton “Blue” Lyles Jr. by the S.C. Army National Guard Scholarship Association. Lyles dedicated 40 years of his life to the service of the S.C. Army National Guard. He served as administrator at the Hartsville Guard Unit, Company C of the 3rd Battalion, 178th Field Artillery.
