DHEC to hold meeting in McBee for wastewater treatment plant

The South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) will hold a public meeting regarding the proposed wastewater treatment plant that would be located near McBee just off SC Highway 151.

Alligator Rural Water and Sewer Company has requested permission to build a new wastewater treatment plant in the McBee area, according to a release from DHEC.

Currently, Alligator provides wastewater service in the McBee area but pumps the wastewater to the City of Hartsville for treatment, the release said. The new facility would allow Alligator to end its relationship

with Hartsville for treating and discharging wastewater and will allow the company to do it on its own.

The purpose of the meeting is to get public input from area residents concerning the request.

The McBee Town Council passed a resolution last year against allowing the wastewater treatment plant last year, according to Mayor John Campolong.

The meeting will take place at McBee High School, Hwy 151 South, McBee, on Tuesday, Feb. 24, at 7 p.m.
