Kay Byrd has joined the Lake City News & Post’s staff as the newspaper’s advertising representative.

Byrd, who previously worked at the Morning News in Florence, officially joined the Lake City staff June 15. She worked briefly at the News & Post when the previous advertising representative was on maternity leave, and she said she is happy to be back.

“I am very anxious to share all of our new technology that we have to reach potential customers for our clients,” she said. “The newspaper industry is growing by leaps and bounds, with new and exciting ways to advertise expanding so fast it’s hard to keep up with it all.”

Byrd moved to Marion about 15 years ago after marrying Lenny Byrd, a Marion native. She worked for the Marion Star & Mullins Enterprise for eight years before moving to The Weekly Observer in Hemingway, where she stayed for nearly a year.

She began her sales career in 1978, when she sold vacuum cleaners door to door. She then landed a sales job at a Belk department store in North Charleston before working in property management.

She and her husband also own a country store in the Zion community of Mullins.

Byrd is the Christian education director and a Sunday school teacher at Grace Community Church in Marion. She also helps her daughter Heather’s photography business, Infinity Images, as an assistant photographer.

In her free time, she said, she enjoys reading and spending time with her grandchildren, Gage and Lindsay.
