Catherine and James Lowell Ellis
Catherine Ann Mercer and James Lowell Ellis of W. Pittsburgh, Pa., were married at Homewood in Asheville, N.C., on Sept. 6, 2008. The Rev. Tim Lolley officiated. The bride graduated from Summerville High School and The College of Charleston. She is employed by the Eaton Corporation in Pittsburgh as national accounts coordinator.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Mercer of Summerville. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Finley F. Morrison of Hartsville and the late Mr. and Mrs. Elmer S. Mercer Jr. of West Chester. Pa.
The wedding gown was a Maggie Sottero one-piece strapless A-line, corset back gown styled with luxury in lace and empress taffeta. The design featured a side cascading double caught up skirt detail accented with lace appliqué. Lace ornamented the bodice and created a gently asymmetrical lowered waistline. The gown featured a chapel-length train.
The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Ellis Jr. of Pittsburgh, Pa. He is the grandson of Mrs. Bearnice Ellis of Chesapeake, Va., the late Mr. and Mrs. James Lucas of Vaughn, W. Va. The groom graduated from Peters Township High School in Pittsburgh and Kaplan University. He is employed by the Eaton Corporation as an IT manager.
The bride’s father, Michael Mercer, gave her in marriage.
The matron of honor was Shay Mercer Siler, sister of the bride, of Knoxville, Tenn.
Bridesmaids were Liza Potter DeArmey of Savannah, Ga., Melanie Weis of Black Mountain, N.C., Christina Lohs of Raleigh, N.C. and Alicia Chatman of Asheville, N.C.
The best man was Dan Ellis, brother of the bride, of Pittsburgh.
Groomsmen were Chuck Miller of Peters Township, Pa., Kevin Gorman of Asheville,
and Drew Church and Ralph Lowe, both of Pittsburgh.
The ushers were John Ellis, brother of the groom of Pittsburgh, and Paul Siler, brother-in-law of the bride of Knoxville, Tenn.
The ring bearer was Liam Ellis, nephew of the groom of Pittsburgh.
Music was provided by Mike Guzala on clarinet, Steve Trismen on fiddle and John Stineman on guitar.
The couple honeymooned in Curacao, Netherland Antilles. They make their home in Pittsburgh.
