Men’s Dance Club to host debutante ball
DARLINGTON – On Saturday, the Darlington Men’s Dance Club will host its debutante ball at the Darlington Country Club. The club has been presenting young ladies and introducing young men to society for at least 50 years, said Tony DiLeo, club treasurer and organizer of the event this year.
It will be a dinner and dance that will highlight the Christmas social season for nine young area women.
Those being presented at this year’s dance are:
Mary Hunter Beasley, daughter of the Honorable and Mrs. David M. Beasley, attends Clemson University and will be presented by her father. She will be escorted by John M. Ervin IV. She is also the granddaughter of Dr. and Mrs. Louis T. Payne, Richard L. Beasley and the late Jaqueline Beasley.
Betty Suiter Coxe is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edmond Ragland Coxe. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas C. Coxe III and the late Mr. and Mrs. Graham Whitehead. She attends Wofford College and will be presented by her grandfather Thomas C. Coxe III. She will be escorted by James K. Williamson.
Susan Thomas Coxe, a student at the University of North Carolina, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Chatterton Coxe IV. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas C. Coxe III and Mrs. Ashton Lewis and the late Mr. Lewis. She will be presented by her grandfather Thomas C. Coxe III and will be escorted by Rogers Coxe.
Lyall Miller Early, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Edwin Early, is being presented by her father and escorted by Damon S. Flowers Jr. She is a student at the University of South Carolina and the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert P. Coggeshall and Mrs. Nell Breedan Early and the late Dr. Early. Her mother, Lola Coggeshall, made her debut in 1974. Lyall’s great-grandfather, Berryman E. Coggeshall was a charter member of The Men’s Dance Club.
Laurie Elizabeth Gregg, daughter of Mrs. Elizabeth Lawson Thompson and Thomas Ashby Gregg Jr., will be presented by her stepfather Perry Lee Thompson. She will be escorted by Fred B. Gibbs III. She is the granddaughter of Laurie C. Lawson and the late Betty Pearce Lawson and the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Ashby Gregg Sr. Miss Gregg works for Clemson University.
Anne Darby Kirven, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Thomas Gray Wilson and William Wilson Kirven III, attends the University of South Carolina. She will be presented her stepfather, Dr. Wilson, and escorted by George A. Hearn. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. Sidney S. Tison Jr. and the late Mr. Tison and Mr. and Mrs. William W. Kirven Jr.
Julia Banks Lawson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Edward Lawson and Mrs. Karen Swancy Smith, is the granddaughter of Laurie C. Lawson and Mrs. Lawson and Mrs. William R. Swancy and the late Mr. Swancy. She attends Clemson University and will be presented by her father. She will be escorted by Thomas P. Goodson Jr.
Maria Leigh Thompson, daughter of Perry Lee Thompson and Mrs. Gina Graves Boland, will be presented by her father. Her escort will be Richard L. Livingston. A student at Clemson University, she is the granddaughter of Mrs. Martha Shirley Pitts and the late Broudas H. Thompson and Mrs. Barbara Lou Graves and the late Harry C. Graves.
Jennifer Nicole Ward, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Van Ward III , will be presented by her father. Her escort will be Howard E. Teal. She attends Francis Marion University and is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward A. Capers Jr. and Mrs. Hoyt Belk and the late Mr. Belk. Her great-grandfather Edward Allen Capers Sr. was a charter member of The Men’s Dance Club.
The Men’s Dance Club will introduce the following young men at their dance:
Thomas Ray Clanton, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Dean Clanton and grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Ray M. Clanton and Dr. and Mrs. James C. Owen, will be introduced. He attends Clemson University, and his date for the evening will be Rachel Hester.
Campbell Davies Coxe Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Campbell Davies Coxe Sr. and grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas C. Coxe III and Mr. and Mrs. James M. Potter, will attend the dance with Sara Harlan. He attends Wofford College.
John McIver Ervin IV is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John McIver Ervin III. He is the grandson of the late Dr. and Mrs. John M. Ervin Jr. and Mr. and Mrs. Joe B. Pearce and the late Mrs. Elizabeth Long Pearce. He attends the University of South Carolina, and his date is Mary Hunter Beasley.
Thomas Pierce Goodson Jr. is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Pierce Goodson Sr. His date is debutante Julia Lawson. He attends Clemson University and is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Robert E. Goodson Sr. and Mr. and Mrs. Donald R. Bailey.
James Philip Wilcox Howle’s date for the dance will be Chappel Timmons. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Adger Howle and grandson of Mr. and Mrs. J. Adger Howle and Mr. and Mrs. Bob A. Shirley Sr. He attends Newberry College.
Christopher Parker Mimms, son of Mrs. Laura Lawson and John Christopher Mimms, is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Donald C. Ely and Mrs. Charles Marion Mimms and the late Mr. Mimms. He attends Tri-County Technical College, and his date is Lyles Huntley.
