PAMPLICO – On March 26, 2009 New Prospect Christian School was one of the first of the local schools to hold this year’s prom.  Their theme was “Take Me There.”
They transformed their school cafeteria into a tropical cafeteria complete with real goldfish in a pond with a fountain gracing the middle.  A huge tropical sunset adorned one wall and was used as the backdrop for prom pictures.

Hannah-Pamplico set tradition aside and decided to try something different this year. They held their prom at Sunset Acres in Cades on April 9.  The morning of the prom they decorated onsite and were ready to dance the night away.

“We wanted to try and bring back the joy of prom by trying something different this year,“ said prom coordinator, Tiffany McCullough. “When we decorated the gym here at school, many of the students would be too stressed and tired to enjoy themselves on prom night. So, this year we rented a place and only had to decorate a little bit the morning of prom.“ On April 10, Johnsonville High School students were “Swept Away” as they turned their gym into a ballroom.

A beautiful fountain stood in one corner. It was made and contributed by Rease Shird and his masonry class from Hannah-Pamplico High School. The large stairway sprawled in the opposite corner was constructed by John Spradley and was painted by juniors, Kelly Alyss Spradley and Amy Hunter.

“We had a great group of juniors that came out to work,“ said prom advisor, Anita Leviner. “They did an excellent job. Everything has gone smoothly this year.“

Around 225 tickets were sold for prom this year. Their theme song was “All My Life.“ The DJ was Pat Taylor - Musician on the Strand.  As the king and queen were announced, balloons were dropped from the ceiling.  This year’s prom king and queen were Brock Cooper and Rebecca Perales.

As always, there were the prom worries like ‘What if someone else has the same dress?”, the hair, the make-up, and for the boys, “What if my tux doesn’t fit?“ But through all the worry, prom seemed to turn out pretty well for them all.
