The American Cancer Society announced today that it has 100 remaining spaces available for the Marine Corps Marathon on October 25, 2009.

General registration for the marathon filled in just 16 days and closed on April 17. With over 30,000 runners, the Marine Corps Marathon is one of the most popular in the nation.

Through its Charity Runner program, ACS will fill race spaces with participants that raise money for the Society. Dollars raised are used to fund life-saving research, patient programs, advocacy and education.

“It’s a unique opportunity for people that want to make a difference in the fight against cancer,“ said Denise Hyater, Regional Executive Director for ACS. “We also know that a lot of people missed out on registration for the Marine Corps Marathon. We’re happy to invite late-comers to our team.“

Members of the Charity Runner team are asked to raise $1,000 to benefit ACS. Each team member gets their own fund-raising page, which includes tips and tools to help reach their goals. Team ACS will be comprised of 200 runners in 2009 with a combined fund-raising goal of $350,000. Registration for Charity Runner in the Marine Corps Marathon closes on September 1, 2009.
