Mary Kristen Cox of Latta and Lucas Marion Oates of Darlington were married June 20, 2009, at the historic Abingdon Manor in Latta, SC. The 5:00 p.m. ceremony was performed by the Reverend Samuel Oscar Clardy. A reception followed at Abingdon Manor.
The bride, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Marsden Haigh Cox, III of Latta, is the granddaughter of Mrs. Merle Bethea Cox and the late Marsden Haigh Cox, Jr. of Latta and the late Mr. and Mrs. Boyle Fleetwood Haselden of Greeleyville and Kingstree. Kristen is a graduate of Francis Marion University with a B.S. in psychology.
The bridegroom, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Bentley Oates, Jr. of Darlington, is the grandson of Mrs. Lynn Williams Oates, Sr. and the late Mr. Ronald Bentley Oates, Sr. of Oates and the late Mrs. Margaret Johnson Mozingo of Florence an
d the late Mr.James Clayter Arrants of Camden. Lucas graduated from Francis Marion University with a B.S. in political science and will attend the Charlotte School of Law in the fall.
Mr. Marsden Haigh Cox, IV, brother of the bride, and Mr. Ronald Bentley Oates, brother of the groom, were ushers. Miss Mallary Flynn Allen, friend of the bride, greeted guests as they arrived. Program attendants were Miss Sarah Lesesne Dickert and Miss Ashleigh Adelaide McMaster, cousins of the bride.
After a cruise to the western Caribbean and a trip to various places in Florida, the couple will reside in Fort Mill, SC.
