Francis Marion University associate professor of management Hubert H. Setzler III’s article, “EMS Call Volume Predictions: A Comparative Study,” has been accepted for publication in the international journal, Computer & Operations Research.

In the paper, Setzler gives figures on how the demand for ambulances fluctuates throughout the week, depending on the day of week and, even more so, the time of day. An artificial neural network (ANN) designed to forecast demand volume of specific areas during different times of the day is compared with current industry practice for accuracy of prediction. The study was written with corresponding authors, University of North Carolina at Charlotte professor Cem Saydam and Sungjune Park.

Setzler earned a Bachelor of Arts in English and business from Newberry College, and a Master of Business Administration and doctorate in information technology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
