EFFINGHAM -- Two Lydia men were arrested Sunday for conspiring to rob and kidnap a person.
Julius Elliott and Carlton McCullough were arrested by investigators with the Florence County Sheriff’s Office on Sunday and charged with kidnapping, armed robbery while armed with a deadly weapon, criminal conspiracy, unlawful carrying of a pistol and unlawful sale or delivery of a pistol.
According to investigators, on or about Saturday, Elliott, was the driver of a vehicle used by him and McCullough to block the victim’s vehicle on Brittany Drive. McCullough then entered the victim’s vehicle and held the victim at gunpoint, demanding money and refusing the victim’s request to leave. Elliott and McCullough later fled the scene, but were stopped by FCSO Deputies shortly thereafter. McCullough was also charged with financial transaction card theft, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and possession of cocaine. The victim was not physically injured during the encounter.
Elliott, 20, of 2440 Trails Edge Drive, Lydia, was arrested by investigators with the Florence County Sheriff’s Office on Sunday and charged with kidnapping, criminal conspiracy, armed robbery while armed with a deadly weapon, unlawful carrying of a pistol and the unlawful sale or delivery of a stolen pistol.
Carlton McCullough, 21, of 2529 Clement St., Lydia, was arrested by investigators with the Florence County Sheriff’s Office on Sunday and charged with kidnapping, criminal conspiracy, armed robbery while armed with a deadly weapon, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, financial transaction card theft, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and possession of cocaine.
Elliott and McCullough will be held at the Florence County Detention Center until an appearance before a Circuit Court Judge when bond will be considered.
