Workers report problems with voting machines at Florence precinct

»  Comments | Post a Comment

Workers switched to paper ballots within the first hour of voting in Saturday's Republican Presidential Primary, when the two voting machines at one precinct experienced technical failures.

According to poll worker Ray James, the machines at High Hill Church of God, the Florence 35 district precinct, did not recognize the Personal Electronic Ballot activation device, forcing at least the first three voters to use a simple paper ballot.

The PEB is a green memory card device that poll workers use to turn the voting machine on and enable voting. When the polls close, poll workers move summary data from each machine onto the PEB. The PEB's are then transported to election headquarters for tabulation.

The polls will remain open across South Carolina until 7 p.m.
