KINGSTREE, SC- Lake City Attorney, Cezar McKnight officially announced his candidacy for Senate District 32 Saturday at the Williamsburg County Recreation Center in Kingstree, SC.
The campaign kick-off featured speakers and a chance to get acquainted with the Senate District 32 candidate.
Democratic State Senator Yancey McGill currently holds that seat.
He has held it since 1988.
McKnight says its time for a change.
"I plan on running a grassroots campaign. I plan on making a contact with as many people I can. And I'm willing to work hard in my campaign and work hard once elected to put District 32 first and foremost," said McKnight.
McKnight is concerned about education in South Carolina and in District 32.
"If you note, our schools [South Carolina Schools] has 1/3 of the 100 worst schools in the nation and for our governor to send back 144 million dollars, not once but twice, and then to have Senator McGill vote with her, I don't believe that's consistent with what we need in District 32."
McKnight acknowledges the race for Senate District 32 Seat won't be easy, but he is ready to fight.
"Senator McGill has done some good things for the district but particularly with the new administration we have in South Carolina, particularly Governor Haley, Senator McGill has aligned himself solely with her til he votes lock stock with her and that's not consistent with the values and the beliefs in this area,” said McKnight.
McKnight is a 1992 graduate of Kingstree Senior High School, going on to earn his bachelors degree from Morris College before going on to Florida Coastal School of Law, in addition to other academic pursuits.
He served in the Army Reserves from 1991 to 1999 before being discharged honorably. He started his own law practice, the Law Office of Cezar E. McKnight LLC, in 2002 and is a member of the South Carolina Bar Association as well as several other state and national legal associations.
