Dozens of literary fans braved the rain and turned out for the second annual Pee Dee Local Author Expo Saturday at the Drs. Bruce & Lee Foundation Library.
Authors with ties to the Pee Dee lined the walls of the Joe Stukes Meeting Room where participants could meet and greet, shake hands, talk shop, buy a book or get a book signed.
The main draw was Rose Rock, mother of comedian Chris Rock and author of Mama Rocks' Rules: Ten Lessons for Raising a Houseful of Successful Children.
The Andrews native drew steady traffic, as did many of the other Pee Dee area authors in the room.
Retired Francis Marion University history professor Emily Lorraine de Montluzin and her mother, Emily Hosmer de Montluzin, were on hand with their book, Dearest Arlette, which chronicles 10 years of letters between an American family and their French relatives from 1945-1955.
Lake City resident and author Mary Kelley was there with her book, Taska: Daughter of the Reconstruction, which she edited from a family manuscript discovered while doing genealogical research.
The manuscript, by Samuel Calhoun Morris, chronicles the life of a young lady growing up in the wake of the Civil War.
Also there was Janice Green of Hemingway who brought her book, a retelling of the Creation illustrated through quilt squares -- or octagons in this case.
