BISHOPVILLE - The Good Samaritans for All People held its 16tth annual Christmas Giveaway Dec. 17.
This year’s giveaway provided toys, clothing, food and household items for 568 families from 12 counties in the Pee Dee, Sandhills, Midlands and part of the Low country.
The event took place at Lee Central High School in Lee County.
The Good Samaritans for All People Christmas Giveaway was started in 1995 by the Rev. Eddie Thomas and his wife, Corine for needy families. Since then, the organization has provided assistance for thousands of South Carolina families in need.
Dozens of volunteers were on hand to help with the giveaway. They included members of Lee County Council, many churches throughout the region, S.C. DHEC Emergency Medical Services Children’s Program and the Combat Veterans of S.C. Thomas serves as chaplain of the Sumter chapter of that organization.
All of the items given away were donated or purchased with donated funds.
Thomas said the Good Samaritans are still accepting donations of items and funding. “We’re still soliciting help in the form of clothes, furniture, food and household items,” he said. “Of course, we also continue to accept financial donations. And we’ll be glad to go and pick up any items anyone wants to donate.”
To donate or for more information, call Thomas at (803) 428-4448 or (803) 459-4989.
