HARTSVILLE, S.C. _ If your New Year’s resolutions included starting something new, a fun project or something crafty, then you’ll want to sign up for Black Creek Arts Council’s newest monthly class called Pinterest Party. The fun begins Monday at 6:30 p.m. and is billed as Girls’ Night Out. Bring a friend and your favorite beverage. Snacks will be provided.
A Pinterest Party is your chance to make a new project each month that has been pinned on the website www.pinterest.com . Participants will select the next month’s project from items found on this website.
Interest in the class started in December, said Casey Gainey, coordinator, when someone brought in an idea for a Christmas wreath that had been pinned on the website. Gainey said the website is an online pinboard where you can bookmark things you find online that you would like to make at a later date.
Gainey said if you have a project "pinned" on Pinterest that you are dying to make, send it to her at Black Creek Arts Center. Each month, the group will decide the project for the next month, and if your project is chosen, you win a free spot in that class.
Gainey said the December class of 12 wreath-makers decided the January project would be frosting wine glasses and candleholders. Those who attend the Monday night session will determine the project for February.
If you have always wanted to do crafts but don’t know how to start, Gainey will be there to help get you started, to offer tips and advice. Depending on the project chosen, Gainey said other instructors may be brought in.
Gainey said the class is loosely structured so that participants won’t feel like they have to budget a specific amount of time to the project.
“The last class had a lot of fun,” Gainey said.
It lasted between 11/2 to 2 hours; however, each month the class time will vary.
“Everyone is invited-whether crafty or not,” Gainey said. The fee is $30 which includes all materials and snacks.
The class is limited to 20, and today is the last day to sign up. Call 332-6234 to reserve a spot in the class.
