The opportunity to run for office in Coward or Scranton has closed for the year. Both towns had noon deadlines set for Friday, Feb. 3, for individuals to submit their names for their upcoming municipal elections.
Two council seats and the office of Mayor are open in Coward this term. The council seats are currently held by Dianne M. Thomas and Charles D. Langston. Thomas is not seeking reelection to the town council but is running uncontested as a candidate for the town’s mayoral seat.
Long-time mayor, Lewis Pate, who has been the town’s mayor for about 28 years, is stepping down and has chosen not to run for the office this term.
Langston is seeking reelection and three additional members of the Coward community will run for one of the two seats. They are Don Gibbons, Patricia L. Frick and Cathy H. Pate.
Scranton’s two open council seats are currently held by Clinton Leon Yarborough and Marie Eaddy.
Eaddy is also not running for office this term. Yarborough will run for one of the two seats along with John Wallace Williams and Dr. Danny Grace.
The elections for both towns will be held Tuesday, April 3, and polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Scranton’s elections will be held in the town’s court room; Coward’s will be held at the town hall.
