Tennessee man dies in Francis Marion Road crash

One of the recovery crew members surveys the truck in which a Tennessee man died Tuesday morning, Feb. 7, 2012, at the intersection of Francis Marion and Liberty Chapel Roads in Florence, SC. The wreck was discovered about 7:15 a.m. but likely occurred at least an hour prior, Florence County Coroner MG "Bubba" Matthews said.

A 39-year-old Tennessee man who had just moved to the Pee Dee died Tuesday morning when he ran through the intersection of Liberty Chapel and Francis Marion Roads and into a tree.

James Keith Ray, who lived at 5924 Liberty Chapel Road, died about 6:30 a.m. following the 6:15 crash, Florence County Coroner MG "Bubba" Matthews said.

The crash was reported to the South Carolina Highway Patrol at 7:09 a.m.

Ray was not wearing a seatbelt, Lance Cpl. Sonny Collins, South Carolina Highway Patrol, said.

Francis Marion Road at Liberty Chapel Road was limited to one-lane of traffic for about an hour.
