Human remains found off Young Road in Timmonsville may be those of two men reported missing in Charlotte on Monday.
Members of the Florence County Sheriff’s Office, Florence County Coroner’s Office and the Charlotte-Mecklenburg (N.C.) Police Department were on the scene Tuesday to investigate, according to a Florence County Sheriff’s Office press release.
“The investigation is in the very much early stages and we are unable to say more at this time,” according to the release.
Sheriff’s Capt. Mike Nunn said deputies were at the scene to assist the North Carolina officers in preserving any evidence they found there. Nunn said the crews were threw at the scene around 8:15p.m. Wednesday, and the remains were taken back with the Charlotte-Mecklen Police Department.
Officers who responded to the initial missing persons report found evidence of foul play, The Charlotte Observer is reporting.
Charlotte-Mecklenburg officers identified the missing men as Benjamin Acahua-Itehua, 39, and Floriberto Acahua-Itehua, 32.
The Observer is reporting that, as a result of the North Carolina investigation, three suspects were taken into custody: Aquilino Tzompaxtle, 20, Dominick Vershon Cole, 26, and Efrain Tzompaxtle, 23.
The suspects and victims were known to each other, North Carolina investigators said.
Detectives with Charlotte-Mecklenburg and Fayetteville (N.C.) police departments and Florence County Sheriff’s Office worked together to catch the suspects.
Each suspect is charged with two counts of murder and armed robbery and will be taken to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office where they will remain in custody pending bond hearings, The Observer is reporting.
