COWARD, SC -- A brief high speed chase through Coward ended in a crash early Friday afternoon.

Rodney McCray, 27, Dover Drive, Salters, is charged with reckless driving and failure to stop for blue light, according to the Florence County Detention Center bookings Web site.

McCray was arrested and charged after he was pursued through Coward at speeds that reached 120 miles an hour on US 52, Kevin Miller, police chief, said.

McCray had been driving fast and weaving in and out of traffic since at least Kingstree, Miller said.

The chase ended at West CW Robinson Road and US 52 where McCray crashed and his car rolled twice, Miller said.

As officers and South Carolina Highway Patrol troopers worked the crash site motorists would stop and report incidents involving the suspects car further south on US 52 that they had witnessed, Miller said.
