A 51-year-old Hamlet, NC, man died early Saturday morning when he was ejected from the car he was driving in a crash on SC 9.

Linnard Ray Short was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash at 3:30 a.m., Marlboro County Coroner Tim Brown said.

The crash was reported at 3:11 a.m. a mile east of Bennettsville, Lance Cpl. Sonny Collins, South Carolina Highway Patrol, said.

Short's 1997 Pontiac ran off the left side of the road and he was ejected when the car overturned, Collins said.

Short was not wearing a seatbelt, he said.

The crash remains under investigation, Collins said.
