FLORENCE, SC — A Florence woman is charged with felony driving under the influence and possession of a controlled substance in connection with a crash that left a motorcyclist seriously injured Friday in Florence.
Maria Luz Bentancourt, 52, of 1446 Francis Marion Road, was booked at the Florence County Detention Center on Friday night.
Florence Police Maj. Carlos Raines said the crash happened at 1:30 p.m. Friday at East Palmetto and Griffin streets, where a white Ford Escort driven by Bentancourt collided with a motorcycle.
Both the motorcyclist and Bentancourt were taken to an area hospital for treatment of their injuries, Raines said. The motorcyclist, who had not been wearing a helmet, suffered a head injury and is in stable condition.
Bentancourt was released Saturday from the jail in Effingham on a $65,000 surety bond, jail officials said.
