MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce, Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday, Coastal Carolina University and Horry-Georgetown Technical College will host the 2012 Grand Strand Legislative Reception for S.C. General Assembly members Jan. 31 from 5-9 p.m. at the Clarion Hotel Downtown in Columbia.
The event is invitation only and is not open to the public.
The goal of the legislative reception is to increase awareness and understanding of the greater Myrtle Beach area’s numerous contributions to the state and its economy and to underscore the importance of supporting the area’s critical needs during the 2012 legislative session.
“It is imperative that we make sure the significant financial contributions and our area’s specific needs are loud and clear. We need to be unified and vocal in our message to South Carolina state lawmakers regarding support and funding for issues such as tourism promotion and Interstate 73,” said Mark Lazarus, MBACC Legislative Policy Council chairman.
“While the state still faces challenging financial circumstances, there’s no doubt that the Grand Strand can help continue to lead South Carolina out of tough economic times, provided we receive funding for important priorities like I-73 and tourism promotion,” said Lazarus.
Representatives from the organizations hosting and sponsoring the event, as well as public officials, business leaders and representatives from other area chambers and community organizations are expected to make the annual trip to Columbia for the reception.
