SURFSIDE BEACH, SC - Officers with the Surfside Beach Police Department arrested three suspects on Thursday after being caught in the act of burglary.
A press release from SBPD said Williams Shane Blackmon, 24 of Myrtle Beach, Tonya Ann Bowles, 37 of Conway, and Charles Malcolm Rheuark, 35 of Conway, were arrested just after noon after a resident reported the tree were stealing car batteries from a vehicle underneath her home.
Officers were able to locate the three suspects as they left in a vehicle and all three were arrested within about a mile of the theft location.
Two of the three suspects had been under investigation for similar thefts for more than nine months, but investigators had been unable to to locate them for questioning.
All three suspects were charged with Burglary in the 2nd Degree, Breaking and Entering into a Motor Vehicle, Criminal Conspiracy, Possession off Criminal Implements, and Larceny.
The suspects appeared in municipal court Friday for a bond hearing and were transported back to the county jail pending a $22,092 cash or surety bond (each).
“Our officers were able to get to the area very quickly,” Frederick explained, “but we rarely enjoy the benefit of such a rock solid description and direction of travel report.”
Frederick also said that two of the suspects had been identified as persons of interest in a string of similar thefts that occurred in the Spring of 2011, but investigators were unable to locate them for
questioning.
“We believe that Thursday’s arrests should help us close out at least some of those prior larcenies,” Frederick added.
