CONWAY, SC - The Horry County Planning & Zoning Department’s Keep Horry County Beautiful (KHCB) Committee will partner with Coastal Carolina University student group “Eco-Reps” to clean up a new portion of the West Cox Ferry National Recreation Area on Saturday, February 25 from 9 a.m. to noon.
The area, located behind University Place off of Gray Lake Boulevard and Jackson Bluff Road, has been the location for a great deal of illegal dumping and littering.
The event is also hosted in partnership with both the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service (the parent of the Waccamaw National Wildlife Refuge) and the CCU Campus and Community Sustainability Initiative.
Bags, gloves, garbage pickers and safety vests will be provided through Keep Horry County Beautiful. Lunch will NOT be provided; volunteers will need to bring snacks and water.
The intent of the KHCB Committee is to support community-driven cleanup events and to provide the supplies. “Bringing the growing litter problem to the attention of community groups and volunteers is exactly the goal our new group (KHCB) is pursuing to help Keep Horry County as beautiful as it is,” said Christopher Klement, Horry County Planning & Zoning Department Senior Planner.
Volunteer inquiries should be directed to Coastal Carolina University Sustainability Coordinator, Jennifer Sellers at 843-349-5041 or sustain@coastal.edu.
