Horry County Fire Rescue along with Myrtle Beach Fire, Conway Fire Department and SC Forestry responded to a brush fire Sunday afternoon in the Palmetto Pointe area in Myrtle Beach.

As of 4:30 p.m., Leslie Yancey of HCFR said that the fire has yet to be contained and they're cuurrently working to protect 15 homes from the fire.

Horry County Police Department and fire crews from North Myrtle Beach, Midway and Conway are also on scene.

Yancey encourages people to take the Red Flag Alert seriously. The alert is still effective in Coastal and Pee Dee communities.

"With the winds this bad, any time an ember does burn, it can cause something else to go on fire," said Yancey.

"With the high winds, you do have the potential to spread rather quickly."

About 15 acres burned in the fire.

The fire was confirmed to be contained Sunday evening. Yancey said they will have a presence at the scene overnight to monitor any possible flare ups.
