Myrtle Beach Police arrest woman on child cruelty, trespassing charges

MYRTLE BEACH, SC --

A Myrtle Beach woman was charged with cruelty to children and trespassing Saturday after police and motel security forced their way into her motel room at 7:03 a.m. and found her, a child and an unresponsive man along with empty liquor and pill bottles.

Both charges are misdemeanors, according to the arrest report.

Brittany Nicole Shelby, 22, 2252 Old Pepper Road, was arrested after motel management decided to evict her following a disturbance in her room, according to the Myrtle Beach Police Department arrest report.

"Mommy, mommy get up, it's the police," officers said the child could be heard to say from the room-side of the door.

Officers told the child to step away from the door, forced it partially open to see an unidentified white male unresponsive in a chair and Shelby behind the door, trying to force it closed, according to the report.

After motel security announced the room's occupants were being evicted from the room, Shelby again refused them entry and refused to collect her belongings to depart, according to the report.

Officers called EMS for the unidentified male after they determined he was still breathing. They called Shelby's father to take custody of the child.

According to the report, an empty gallon bottle of spiced rum, an empty pint bottle of bourbon and an empty pill bottle were found in the motel room.
