Frank Bryant said his neighborhood use to be quiet and quaint, Friday when discussing the new Fred Nash Blvd. He added, that was 20 years ago.
"We started building a lot of houses,” said Bryant. “A lot of people moving in to the are and of course Myrtle Beach growing."
He lives on Emory Road, just one house away from the new section of Fred Nash Blvd. Bryant said he can not wait for the signs to be moved so he can use it.
"We're very happy to see it [finally open], said Bryant. “Now we can get out without taking our life in our hands on Shetland Lane."
The intersection is the only part of the new road that Kevin Pendergrass, owner of Carolina Auto Sales is worried about. His business has been located on the road for 18 years.
"There just seems to be so many accidents,” said Pendergrass. “With us not having a light there at the moment, we're just a little worried that there's going to be more traffic and causing more accidents."
But Pendergrass is looking forward to seeing traffic pass in front of his business once again.
"We're really hoping this new road coming in is going to help us,” he said. “It's definitely going to alleviate a lot of the congestion on the Bypass."
Unfortunately, the new road was too late for Airport Dinner. It shut its doors at the beginning of the year, and has not been able to reopen because of the economy. But the owner tells News13 it was also because they could not wait any longer for this new street to open.
"It's just a simple little street so it shouldn't take long,” said Bryant. “They just drug it out. I thought they'd be through in a month or two and it took about six months."
The new road will be open February 21st.
