CONWAY, SC – A Conway woman was arrested last week after her newborn child tested positive for cocaine.
According to a police report, Tanya Key Moore Lightsey, 27, was arrested Friday and charged with unlawful neglect of a child and shoplifting.
Horry County police investigators were called in January by the Department of Social Services (DSS) after a child tested positive for drugs.
The DSS worker told police the child tested positive for cocaine, opiates, and benzo.
The DSS worker told police that she did speak with the mother, Lightsey, who advised her that the reason cocaine was in the child's system was because she had a sore tooth and rubbed some cocaine on it to numb it.
According to the report, police were told Lightsey was also investigated in 2010 for giving birth to a child that tested positive for drugs.
Lightsey remains in custody at the J Reuben Long Detention Center.
The child was placed in the custody of an aunt.
