MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (AP) - Authorities say they have caught a man who removed an electronic monitoring device several weeks after being accused of having the gun reported stolen from former North Myrtle Beach police chief.

Thirty-four-year-old Kashief Naheem Spain of Conway has been charged with escape, property damage and failure to appear in court.

Spain had been released from jail Dec. 5 to await trial on his earlier arrest on charges that included the illegal sale or delivery of a pistol. The gun had been reported stolen by then-North Myrtle Beach Public Safety Director William Bailey.

Spain had been ordered to wear an electronic monitoring device while awaiting trial. But police say they found the device near a road the day he was released from jail.

There were no details on his latest arrest.
