MYRTLE BEACH, SC -- The body of a Myrtle Beach was recovered from a red full-size Dodge pickup that was found at the bottom of a Myrtle Beach retention pond Sunday afternoon.
Horry County Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard identified the victim as 59 year-old William Long. Willard said Long died of natural causes and not in relation to the accident.
Horry County Police Lt. Keith Strickland said investigators don't know if the man was a passenger or driver in the truck which was sunk at the intersection of Dick Scobee Drive and Ron McNair Boulevard.
The road leading up to the pond splits and goes around either side and then into an undeveloped subdivision.
Horry County and South Carolina Highway Patrol officials are conducting the investigation. The truck will be taken for forensic examination once it is towed from the pond, Strickland said.
Units were called out at 4:25 p.m. to the location, which was reported as a car in a retention pond by a pilot who flew over the site.
More information from the South Carolina Highway Patrol was not immediately available. It is unclear if the incident is being investigated as a crash or a crime.
