MYRTLE BEACH - Firefighters from Horry County Fire Rescue responded to a fire Tuesday morning at the Brightwater Skilled Nursing Facility, in Myrtle Beach.
Crews were called out at 2:39 a.m. to a fire that began in the laundry room area of the nursing home.
The sprinkler system inside the nursing home was able to contain the fire until crews could get there.
Once on scene, the fire was quickly put under control. 18 residents were sheltered, in place, by Horry County Fire Rescue, while three residents were quickly evacuated from their rooms, as a necessary safety precaution.
“This is the second fire in less than two weeks that sprinklers have been able to keep a fire from spreading until crews arrived,” stated Kenny Todd, battalion chief at Horry County Fire Rescue and Horry County state fire marshal. “Sprinklers do save lives. This situation could have been much worse had Brightwater not had them in place.”
Eleven units responded to the scene, with mutual aid from Myrtle Beach Fire Department. Three residents were evaluated and treated on scene.
The fire is currently under investigation.
