HBO's "Eastbound & Down" filming in Myrtle Beach

MYRTLE BEACH – The HBO series “Eastbound & Down” will be filming about six scenes in Myrtle Beach the week of July 5th – 9th.

The show stars Danny McBride as Kenny Powers, a burned-out major league baseball player who returned to his old middle school to teach P.E. in the first season. He then went on to play baseball in Mexico in season two, which ended with him heading to play in the Texas Rangers minor league baseball team in Myrtle Beach.

City Spokesman Mark Kruea said the city has been working for about a month on plans for the production crew and actors to be in town. He said they plan on filming scenes at BB&T Coastal Field, along Ocean Boulevard, perhaps along the Boardwalk, and restaurant row.

City Council issued some special event permits for the event, but Kruea said he does not expect visitors and residents to be impacted by the increased activity. Producers of the show wanted to be in Myrtle Beach during its peak season.

Actor Matthew McConaughey is scheduled to be in town for the show’s filming that week, and Kruea said the crew is expected back in the area later in the summer for additional work
