CONWAY - Rachel Todd put out on ad on craigslist looking for folks who use coupons because she had a hard time finding anyone.
The response was immense, as more than 150 responded and joined a group she started on Facebook – the “Conway Couponers.”
One week later the group met at the Conway Library for the first time.
"I was interested in seeing how many people were coming, seeing what exactly they were doing to save,” said Lisa Richardson, who was invited to attend online. “I'm all about saving some money."
Richardson once dug through bins at a recycling center just to find weekly inserts, and the sacrifice, she says, is worth the savings.
"I think I saved not quite $200 at BiLo one time."
"The most money I ever saved was about $210 in one setting," said Alycia Payne, who has couponed for more than twenty years.
Saving an average of $10,000 annually, Payne can enjoy vacations with the money she'd normally give to the grocery stores.
"I go to ten races a year. That’s about a thousand dollars each time,” Payne said. “Well, I found out that coupons pay for my trips to NASCAR."
The group has only met once.
Members share strategy, coupons, and the best places to go to save.
"If you are a working mom, a stay at home mom, a working dad, or a stay at home dad, there are people that are out there that understand and can help you save money," said Todd.
