Ocean Lakes Campground celebrated its 40th birthday Saturday. July 2, 1971, the camp ground opened with only 30 spots and one bath house. Now the property has 3,500 rental spaces and can accommodate more than 30,000 people.
The campground celebrated the milestone with all of its guests Saturday.
Folks took pictures with sandy the starfish...and also tie-dyed birthday t-shirts.
"There's such a family feel,” said Barb Krumm, director of marketing at the campground. “We just call these guests our extended family. It works for the team mates. There's nearly 500 of us here right now. We are a giant, giant family with lots of tradition."
The campground has been celebrating all year. They've given out more than 800 prizes to visitors since January.
