Myrtle Beach FC announced Saturday it will call Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium home starting with a season opening game the first weekend of May.
"We have been interested in Doug Shaw Memorial stadium since we first started this project" Trym Hogner, Myrtle Beach FC President, said of the agreement with the stadium.
"The stadium is a professional, quality stadium. It just adds another layer of professionalism to our club. Coach Thunder, top of the line stadium, great sponsors, it all adds up to an exciting season. Now we can rally the city and visitors to pack this stadium for years to come!"
"The pitch is fast! I scored a goal or two at this stadium in the late 90's.The field then was nothing like it is now, it's beautiful, fast, professional," former Charleston Battery striker Patrick 'Thunder' Olalere, signed by Myrtle Beach FC last month to be the teams first head coach, said.
"We have to get our guys used to this field, once they are used to it, teams wont know what hit them! We could be up 2-0 in an instant," Olalere said.
Myrtle Beach FC will face Atlanta Silverbacks NASL Reserve team, Georgia Revolution, NPSL Champions Jacksonville United, Rocket City and Knoxville Force all at Doug Shaw Memorial stadium in 2012.
The schedule dates and times wont be released until after the NPSL league meeting Jan. 15.
Myrtle Beach FC holds open tryouts on Jan. 28 at 1:30 p.m. at the Market Common YMCA fields.
